Ana-Sophia Chung, a 2025 Pisacano Scholar, is a fourth-year medical student at the Medical College of Georgia (MCG). She graduated with honors in Biology and Spanish from the University of Georgia. After graduation, she worked as a medical scribe in Edinburg, Texas, serving predominantly Spanish-speaking patients. This experience strengthened her resolve to pursue family medicine and affirmed her commitment to improving access to care for marginalized populations.

Originally from Marietta, Georgia, with roots in Nicaragua and South Korea, Ana-Sophia is inspired by her heritage to serve diverse communities, particularly Spanish-speaking patients in the United States. She sees family medicine as the specialty best equipped to combine her interests in prevention, advocacy, and longitudinal patient relationships.

Leadership has been a defining aspect of Ana-Sophia’s path. At MCG, she has served as class president for the Class of 2026, representing her peers and working to improve communication and student well-being. She has also held leadership roles as a student delegate for the Georgia Academy of Family Physicians, executive vice president of the Gold Humanism Honor Society, and a representative in the AAMC Organization of Student Representatives. In each of these positions, she has sought to elevate student voices and advocate for policies that strengthen the future of family medicine.

Service is another cornerstone of Ana-Sophia’s career. She coordinated a health fair that brought together more than 100 interdisciplinary volunteers, expanding access to preventive care in her community. She planned and led MCG’s annual Body Donor Memorial Service, honoring the families who gave the profound gift of anatomical donation for medical education. She also tutors children in her community to improve literacy and volunteers at several of MCG’s free clinics, caring for underserved populations.

While balancing the demands of medical school, Ana-Sophia also worked as an anesthesia technician at her school’s affiliated hospital, further broadening her clinical experience and deepening her respect for the healthcare team.

Outside of medicine, Ana-Sophia finds joy in creative expression and community. She enjoys painting, gardening, singing, movie-watching, and attending musicals and concerts – having attended over 100 live performances. She also plays volleyball with her classmates on their team, the “Set-o-Scopes,” which she sees as a lighthearted way to stay grounded and connected during training.

Looking ahead, Ana-Sophia aspires to a career in full-spectrum family medicine, with a focus on preventive care, health equity, and advocacy. She hopes to continue her work in organized medicine and health policy, striving to reduce barriers to care and advance patient-centered, community-driven solutions. She is honored to join the Pisacano Leadership Foundation and looks forward to carrying its mission into her future as a physician, leader, and advocate.
